Funding Boost To Help Protect Aussies From Disasters

Funding boost to help protect Aussies from disasters

$14 million to enhance disaster preparedness and resilience

The Australian Government has announced a $14 million funding boost to help protect Australians from disasters.

The funding will be used to enhance disaster preparedness and resilience measures, including:

  • Developing new technologies to improve early warning systems
  • Training emergency services personnel in disaster response
  • Upgrading critical infrastructure to make it more resilient to disasters

The funding is part of the government's $300 million Disaster Readiness Fund, which was established in 2018.

The fund is designed to help communities prepare for and respond to natural disasters, such as bushfires, floods, cyclones, and earthquakes.

The funding boost comes as Australia faces an increasing number of severe weather events due to climate change.

In the past decade, Australia has experienced some of its worst natural disasters on record, including the Black Saturday bushfires in 2009, the Queensland floods in 2011, and the Sydney hailstorms in 2019.

The government's funding boost will help communities to better prepare for and respond to these events, ensuring the safety of all Australians.
